Events: GRAS presented at the Symobio 2.0 status conference
SYMOBIO 2.0 provides guidance on the progress of the German bioeconomy, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the “Agenda 2030”. Its focus lies specifically on food security, climate-neutral production, and biodiversity conservation. The project continues developing the foundation for a regular monitoring of the bioeconomy in Germany, providing a comprehensive overview and showcasing significant drivers and trends.
From June 20 to 21, 2023, the status conference on “How is the bioeconomy developing? Status and perspectives of monitoring tools” took place in Kassel, Germany. Approximately 70 participants from research, politics, business, and society discussed the latest insights from the cross-sector systemic monitoring of the bioeconomy, supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV).
GRAS, as a project member, shared its progress in mapping the crop-driven deforestation of oil palm plantations in Indonesia and Malaysia as well as of soy and sugar cane cultivation in Brazil. Additionally, GRAS provided an overview of the high conservation value (HCV) screening approach applied on the Brazilian state of Bahia.
The conference was informative and served as a platform for enhancing communication between the partners. GRAS had productive discussions, gained valuable insights and received positive feedback for the presentation. We are looking forward to participating in following project meetings and offering our support in the project work.
